This episode was recorded back over the summer of 2021 while Adrianne was unemployed and unlicensed in Minnesota. She was able to get Amie and Sara of the Gritty Nurse podcast on the line (they’ve had a busy busy summer) to answer all her questions. Their focus is on Amie and Sara’s activism in their home country of Canada, pushing for safety and respect for nurses. They have created spaces for nurses in forums that had no nurses at the table and they’re going to talk about how they did it.

In this episode, Adrianne talks to fellow nurse Desiree about a topic that impacts all nurses at some point in their career -  bullying and professional incivility. Adrianne and Desiree break down what it is in the adult world, what it costs us as a society and a profession, and what might be able to be done about it.

This week we are joined by Molly Hillig Rodriguez, RN, BSN, MPH, CEO of Empower Yourself Coaching. She reached out to Adrianne to discuss the very sensitive, yet important topic of suicide among nurses.

Nurses are four times more likely to commit suicide than individuals not working in healthcare (Yazdi, 2017). The combination of physical, emotional, mental and financial stressors is a real threat to the well-being of our front line healthcare providers. We are opening up the discussion.

Adrianne has some thoughts on how a staff nurse should treat a float or a traveling nurse - very specific thoughts. She shares some opinions of how we as staff nurses should be treating our travelers and floating nurses from the moment they arrive on the unit.
